Playlist Friday has some notable laments of Newfoundland and Labrador along with some happier tunes as well.
The traditional music of Newfoundland and Labrador is rooted in Irish, Scottish, English, and French music. Thanks to bands like Figgy Duff, Great Big Sea, and musicians like Ron Hynes, and legendary fiddlers like Rufus Guinchard and Emile Benoit, it’s known throughout the world.
Newfoundland and Labrador has a thriving music scene filled with a diverse range of new music, including reggae, world, jazz, blues, rock, classical, and pop.
It’s also become a hotbed of emerging artists, such as the critically acclaimed indie band Hey Rosetta!, rockers The Novaks, and Juno award-winning singer/songwriter Amelia Curran.
On any given day of the week, you’ll come across live music playing in one of our iconic bars or clubs – particularly down on George Street, and be sure to visit the Ship Pub, St. John’s most popular live music venue.

There is a bit of jigs and reels on the playlist but more folk, pop, rock and electronica. Some of the artists may be winning awards at the East Coast Music Awards coming up April 26-30, 2017 in Saint John, New Brunswick.
This playlistis the last of our East Coast provinces. Next month we will travel North and check out the music coming from up there.

My son is off to another workshop in Edmonton. This time he went without me. It is a bit of a strange feeling having him in another province than me. Because of his medical issues I usually stay close by. He is there with family so he will be fine, but still weird. Also this is the first time I can remember having the whole house completely to myself. That is also strange. Too bad I am not feeling great.
