The playlist for this Playlist Friday was going to be for Cinco de Mayo originally but I quickly realized I was going to have a hard time finding Cdn Indie songs for that. So I combined it with good old beer o’clock because it’s a celebration after all.

Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. The tradition has made its way up to Canada as well now. Mostly it is an excuse for people to eat Mexican food and drink Mexican drinks. Watch the video at the link above and read the history lesson to help you know what you are celebrating.

The end of the playlist has one Mariachi song and the others are Latin or Spanish influenced. It was the best I came up with so the majority of the playlist is updated versions of mine and NVP’s beer o’clock playlists from back in the day. Cheers NVP and Happy Cinco de Mayo all!
