Nielsen Canada’s new Music 360 report

The just released Music 360 2014 study, NIELSEN’s third annual research of the tastes, habits and preferences of U.S. music listeners, found that 93% of the country’s population listens to music, spending more than 25 hours each week tuning into their favourite tunes. The 75% of respondents who said they actively chose to listen to music was greater than the 73% who watch television.

The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) Announces Nominees CIMA Gala

The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) has announced the recipients of and nominees for the third annual CIMA Celebration & Awards Gala, taking place on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Toronto’s Glass Factory. This year’s recipients will be recognized for their incredible contributions to independent music. Performers for the Gala and Awards Celebration will be announced in the coming weeks.

SaskMusic and Artists on EU and UK Export Missions

As part of the ongoing strategy to help Saskatchewan artists succeed in worldwide markets, SaskMusic is set to undertake a series of overseas events. We are pleased to be participating in a new export mission this year, to Wrexham, Wales for the Focus Wales festival. Continuing our longstanding partnership with Alberta Music, Manitoba Music, and Music BC, our associations will co-present a showcase under the BreakOut West brand at Undegun on May 12, and Rewind on May 13. This year’s BreakOut West showcase includes three Saskatchewan artists: Nick Faye, LOA, and Poor Nameless Boy, all of whom received official showcase invitations from Focus Wales festival organizers.

Mac DeMarco: ‘I’ve been trying to not turn into my father’

Early March, north London. Three hundred youthful-looking people have wangled tickets to see Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco perform a rare intimate gig at a tiny pub called Nambucca. For the rest of the year he’s on a massive tour of the US and Europe – including two sold-out nights at south London’s 5,000-capacity Brixton Academy and headlining End of the Road – but tonight he’s performing solo, no backing band, “just Mac”.
