How Céline Dion became cool
Drake is a global superstar, and Canada’s current biggest pop export—and even he couldn’t help but gush when he met Céline Dion. When he met her backstage last month at the Billboard Music Awards and rapturously told her, “You’re very iconic. … We love you,” he could have been speaking for much of Canada. No, not all of us might add that we’re “like a year away” from getting a Céline Dion tattoo, as Drake did, indicating a large space on his ribcage—but it’s increasingly clear that we’re with him in spirit.(McLean’s)
Stompin’ Tom Centre for ‘perfect’ Canada Day opening
More than two decades after the residents of Skinners Pond began trying to scrape together the money to build a centre dedicated to the music and life of their most famous son, the Stompin’ Tom Centre will open its doors on Canada’s 150th birthday. (The Guardian)

Hello
Good morning!
Greetings and salutations!
Good Morning, sorry for the barrage of t-shirt pics last night OB staff. @Russ I like your idea of making that one a raccoon.
@Garf maybe we should chat with the rest about next steps re: a T-shirt survey?
@Wynnzie, sure, where were you thinking of chatting?
we can just FB msg for now, as a group maybe, or create a post/thread on the OB staff site
This morning, CBC R1’s q has, in the second half-hour, an interview with the guy who’s done Baby Driver; there seems to be buzz about that flick.
I saw a trailer for Baby Driver this past weekend. Seems interesting. I guess the director is the same guy who did Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Yup, and Shaun of the Dead.
Also, of interest here, it is, without being a musical, done in sync with ol’ pop hits (it was actually filmed in sync, as they had all the movie rights for the tunes). Should be good.
Longish interview, I like.
Edgar Wright is the name of the director.
It gets very high marks — from very few people, in toto — on http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3890160/reviews?filter=chrono
And if I remember correctly, he wrote Ant Man and was going to direct it, but then didn’t?
He also directed Scott Pilgrim and the Cornetto trilogy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Flavours_Cornetto_trilogy)
@janet, yup seems he did! I just checked.
Low Joy Ceiling announced a split EP with Surf Dads. It’s coming out June 16.

@Janet, added, thank you
@Garf, happy to contribute in what ever way I can 🙂
Adaline had an album release on June 2. Did we get that one?

@DBS, No, we only had Grim, Natural Sympathies and, Tops
I need to a) find more sources for release dates and b) put more work into this
I only know because I follow her on FB. I am also working on a Tracks on Tracks Then and Now playlist this week.
I get all of my updates from artists I follow on Twitter.
if there were standardized hashtags for releases it would be easy to filter them
Good day everyone!
Hiya Justin!
By the way, Celine Dion will never be cool.
Darbar, I totally agree.
Did you get your Polaris long list in?
If you were to look at the comments for the facebook post announcing who will play Canada Day in London someone thought Celine Dion should have been on the bill instead of these people they had never heard of
I have sent my ballot in but I can still change it up until midnight tonight. I have changed it twice already so you never know! :p
I can’t stand Celine but some people seem to enjoy her. No accountin’ for taste.
I’m looking forward to seeing who made the long list. I saw that they’re doing a live podcast of the reveal in Ottawa (but I can’t remember when that is).
Tuesday June 13 is the reveal.
“Taking place on June 13 at the National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa at 7pm, this special edition of the Polaris Podcast will feature a roundtable selection of Polaris jurors as well as special guests. They’ll be tasked with discussing the freshly unveiled 40 album 2017 Polaris Music Prize Long List, which is being revealed earlier that day at the National Arts Centre. (Press Release)”
Yeah, that! Only I saw it on Twitter so it was a lot shorter 🙂 Darbar, are you going to be part of the roundtable?
They haven’t contacted me yet to come do that so I am going to guess no. :p
That’s too bad, they’re missing out!
I would be terrified and all you would hear is me giggling nervously. hehe
