Beyoncé’s Lemonade Vinyl Mispressed With Songs by Canadian Punk Band Zex
This month saw the official vinyl release of Lemonade, Beyoncé’s massive 2016 album. Some of those who received their orders, however, may have been taken aback when they dropped the needle on Side A of the lemon-yellow vinyl record. According to a Facebook post from Canadian punk band Zex, the A-Side of their recent album Uphill Battle (featuring songs such as “Burn the Flag,” “Child Soldier,” and “No Sanctuary”) appears on the opening side of Lemonade, where tracks like “Hold Up” should be. That’s really rare, in my experience. Usually — well, perhaps only most often — the video overwhelms the sound.

So Lido won, surprise surprise. I guess I have to listen to her music now, I wasn’t that impressed yet with what I’ve seen/heard, but I’ll keep an open mind.
@benoit, yes I enjoyed the Cohen Video too. I only saw bits and pieces of the rest of the show, pretty lacklustre if you ask me.
I thought they showed a lot of videos of past performances, which I think was to mitigate breaks in the show, but some of them just seemed to drag on.
I think it was mostly filler, not sure why they wouldn’t let the performers do 2 songs each. Even though I couldn’t watch some of it.

I was at Polaris last night. Each of the performances were spectacular. I really enjoyed Lido’s performance. She SOUNDED the best of all the performers, in spite of her blasting the tech crew. Was not a huge fan of the album upon first listen. Not a huge fan of the album overall upon 2nd listen. Feel like I missed something when it won the prize. I felt like there were other albums that were better, like BADBADNOTGOOD
Seeing Tagaq perform was a unique experience. For sure. Highly recommend. Not music I would listen to, but definitely something I would jump at the opportunity to see.
Weaves was great! Especially cool to see Weaves and Tagaq
Lisa Leblanc was a great start to the night. Her acoustic song 5748km had me giggling and hit me in the feels too.
Leif Vollbekk was soothing and almost a different direction from the rest of the acts, just by comparison.
Fiest felt like an obligatory performer, left me a little underwhelmed, but she is a master of her craft and I was happy to see her live.
All the other on-screen videos were cool too. Gord Downie and Leonard Cohen’s videos were especially moving.
Lido’s final comments left a real bad taste in my mouth about the whole experience. I kind of felt like, if she’s willing to “throw shade” on the people who make her performance possible, she’s kind of a jerk. Ultimately, the performances are just icing on the cake and the albums are the determining factors.
Sless, about Lido (La papessa, remember! The popess!): young, disrespected by others, strong, and fundamentally pissed off. Oh, and in “young”, include “of the FB generation — FB, where you can write almost anything”.
I’m not saying I approve — you’re not supposed to shit in a place that just awarded you $50,000. I bet she’ll be a little ashamed of that really soon. Maybe she’ll admit it, maybe not. Short fuse on a firecracker.

When she said it my first reaction was that it left a bad taste in my mouth too, it seemed like a bad note to end the evening on.
But as Benoit said, she’s still pretty young, and this was a big performance on a big stage, I’m sure it wasn’t a great experience for her to not be able to hear anything. Sure, she probably could have handled it better, but she also wants to take pride in her art.

Hi. I just heard Lido on q. Nothing to add, she’s one of a growing ‘cadre’ of youngsters who don’t let polite words get in the way of stating strong opinions about underlying wrongs.
Going on some more about what Janet said above, Lido probably still may not realise that she sounded jes’ fine, for the audience. (Artists are hypercritical of themselves, often where the audience goes “what? that was great!”)
Ya but if you can’t hear yourself, it’s not sounding good in your mind. Hard to get over that.

I will have a chance to see Tagaq in November if I remember to pick up some tickets. It has been on my bucket list for a few years now to see her live.
I experienced that a show my man friend’s band had. I combined it with a birthday party for myself and my friends and I were loving the music. Talk to the band later and they were all pissed off because the monitors weren’t working properly and they couldn’t hear each other which is a big part of their sound, playing off each other. They didn’t go on a rant to the audience though and blast the sound guy as we were all cheering for them. They saved that for private conversations later.
To me it was her ego talking. She needed everyone to know, I am better than this.
I’m not trying to excuse her comments, and I do think it would have been better served for her to address the monitor issues privately, rather than throw shade on the sound techs on her way off the stage, but I think calling it ego is a good point. If she couldn’t hear, she might have worried that her introduction to a wider audience was marred by not giving a good performance.

The monitors complaint by Lido in public was tasteless…. yes, she should have addresses it privately. I have not listened to her music much but will check it out. For filler. As R3 is not a thing I am getting the impression the overall structure for Canadian Indie, at least by the CBC, has faltered a bit. So they use filler for Polaris. They could have just shortened the show a bit, is that heresy?
Hi Justin, Ya I’m not sure why they would need Filler for Polaris, the number of people watching is not large by any means. And I think this is not really a CBC show, it’s mostly Polaris, but they may have some input into the structure of the show, now that they are a sponsor. Shorter, I think is better, especially when you don’t have a lot of performers, but I think they make it 2 hours or so mostly for the Jury. They’re the ones that need the filler/time. Ok I guess I just answered my own question 😉
Yes for the judges and they needed time to change the stage between bands.
We could have just had dead air instead of videos. To watch a live broadcast there would have to be fillers. I just got bored with the rewind videos.

I didn’t see a program at all. I wasn’t really looking for one though. Everyone got a swag bag with a stash box and rolling papers [ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ], and 2 vinyl records, can’t remember what they were atm.
Will check and confirm that later.
I managed to tune in just in time to catch the end of the weaves set.
While part of me wonders if that outburst was a result of a self-destructive streak but it didn’t make me want to find out more about her.
