The playlist this week is a celebration of trees because it is Tu B’Shevat soon. Yay for trees!
Tu BiShvat (Hebrew: ט״ו בשבט) is a Jewish holiday occurring on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat (in 2018, Tu BiShvat begins at sunset on January 30 and ends at nightfall on January 31). It is also called “Rosh HaShanah La’Ilanot” (Hebrew: ראש השנה לאילנות), literally “New Year of the Trees.” In contemporary Israel, the day is celebrated as an ecological awareness day, and trees are planted in celebration. The first song on the playlist is by an American, Teacher Davis, but he does such a good job of describing what Tu B’Shevat is for us I let him start things off. In that song they talk about Tu B’Shevat being a birthday for trees, so I followed it up with Royal Canoe’s song Birthday. The rest of the playlist is filled with songs about trees, forests, leaves, wood, paper and fruit. That music carries on until the last track on the playlist that is a story about The Fig Tree by Stuart McLean.
Enjoy the music and the story and maybe some figs or pomegranate while you listen. Then go plant a new tree or give one a hug for their birthday. They deserve it.

The trees in my neighbourhood are definitely not ready to blossom and bear fruit and party. Their branches have some fresh snow on them today but I will carry on to party for them.

my teen introduced them to me a few years back when they were playing at her school.
I doubt I will go tonight. I learned that they will be at Kaslo Jazz this summer so I’ll wait until then I guess ….
My son has introduced me to a few new artists too. Those ones are mostly connected to video game soundtracks and the like.
I still have Kaslo Jazz Fest on my mind. Not sure I can make it happen yet, but it is still in my thoughts. So maybe I will see them then too!
@darbar I am working on booking accommodations for Kaslo Jazz fest as that is always an issue. Keep an eye on your timeline for tickets too. $200 weekend passes are still available. I don’t have mine yet either but I will be going for sure. It would be great to festival together!!
