It’s time for another Release Radar playlist! Our playlist this week is all about new songs on our radar this month. Spotify has their Release Radar playlists and we have an OurBasement Release Radar playlist. Once a month we check in on what music has been released. There are over 80 songs on the playlist that have been released since our last Release Radar in mid March. Some tracks were released with an album, and some singles are in advance of an upcoming album and sometimes there are remixes released. There are multiple genres of music for all of us. I even put the new tracks from Drake and The Weeknd on there.

I was excited about many tracks on the list, like the ones from Jill Barber, Lowell, YAMANTAKA//SONIC TITAN, POSTDATA and so many more.

Suuns, Preoccupations, Neko Case and Charlotte Day Wilson had more tracks for us to enjoy this month as well. This months Saskatchewan artists with new tracks are Rosie and The Riveters, Pimpton, Kacy & Clayton and The Deep Dark Woods. The Deep Dark Woods are currently based in BC but we still call them Sask artists. Kacy of Kacy & Clayton joins The Deep Dark Woods on some tracks including the new Babes in The Woods.

Featured artists of the month:

The great new orchestral indie EP from Freedom Baby is first up. The tracks on the EP have a lot of great things going on. Layers of sounds and intensity. It’s definitely worth your listening time to check them out.

The band is a nine piece orchestral indie group headed by it’s two founding members Eric and Brianna. They’ve received acclaim from the blog world and been likened to early Arcade Fire and Beirut.

“We set out to record a collection of songs that captured a feeling and a mood and this is what came out. Our career goal is to remain true to artistic integrity, and that won’t necessarily translate to financial success. But fuck success. For the people who like it we hope you love it. For people who can’t jive with it, that’s totally cool too.” – Freedom Baby

“Stunning from the first note” – Earmilk
“quiet contemplation to eager excitement” – The 405

Next up is a fresh new single from Arts & Crafts Records’ experimental-pop band Ellevator. We have talked about this band before on this site. They are worth paying attention to.

Good music seems instantaneous: a decisive rush of expression and dopamine. Hamilton, Ontario’s Ellevator captures that direct hit of immediacy, with a closer listen revealing the meticulous design of their muscular pop songs. Frontwoman Nabi Sue Bersche delivers raw lyricism with quiet power. Her nimble melodies anchor the electric hooks and cinematic timbres Ellevator has refined on countless stages. Their striking debut EP – recorded in Hamilton with Michael Keire (Arkells, The Dirty Nil, Wildlife). Brick by brick, Ellevator has built a reputation as a band to watch and is poised to break new ground in 2018. “Voices” is the third track from the band’s debut EP, out on Arts & Crafts April 20th.

Nabi Sue Bersche’s thoughts on the song: “I always had a pretty firm idea of what the Love Of My Life™ would be like. I had them mapped out completely, down to the rusty old pickup truck and the 5 o’clock shadow. But then they weren’t any of those things. They were late nights on the phone and making out in my parent’s hatchback, they were unexpected and ill-advised and all sorts of tears. But I knew from the start that they were my future. So I guess Voices is a love song.”

Last of our featured tracks is the second single from Ace of Wands.

The song is taken from the band’s EP which is now released. The band creates a mixture of tones and emotions, blending soaring vocals, violin, synth-bass and guitar into songs inspired by the supernatural, elemental forces and physical sensation.
