Made by a Boy is the debut album from ex-pro baseball player Justin Adam, released under moniker Moon McMullen (named after his Grandfather). Justin, who grew up across the river from Detroit, was a working-class kid who beat the odds and made good. He got a crack at the show until injuries brought him down hard. Friends, family and music were there to help him through. This project is 30 years worth.

The LP’s source material was recorded and archived for, in some cases, 30 years. A counterpoint to the day of dispensable digital media.

Adam explains; “What is unique about this project, is I deliberately took the time I needed to complete it. As I was living my life, the work was creating itself. It opens with the first radio show that I made with my cousin when I was 11.”

The 40 minute time capsule stitches together this life’s worth of recordings and ideas into a pop audio collage.

“It weaves together different eras, sonically exploring the journey from boy to man, the path to becoming a pro baseball player and the pitfalls that experience presented,” recalls Adam.

The album features voyeuristic field recordings of close friends and family who have been there along the way. Additionally, original Blue Rodeo member, Bob Wiseman and Mexican artist, Ani Castillo both appear on lead vocals.

Although Adam is yet to be known for his work in music, that didn’t stop Drake from sampling his track “One Day”, for his new single “I’m Upset”. One Day was released as a teaser for the LP project, at the end of 2017. At 3:47 of One Day, the key theme can be heard, this became the loop that runs throughout Drake’s newest single, I’m Upset.

Made by a Boy was released independently, on May 30th, 2018 and is the first in a series of 3 LPs.
