We have quite a few playlists for you this week. It began with an email from Arts and Crafts for promotion for Dan Mangan’s Troubled Mind album inviting you to “Get a customized Spotify playlist to dance away your troubled mind” with this link. And the idea for the theme this week was begun. I invite you to try it for yourself as it is fun. I tried it a couple times and you do get variations with them all starting with Troubled Mind. Then Royal Canoe posted playlists by band member Michael Jordan whose is posted on the first Wednesday of the month. Follow this one to see what he updates it to next month.
And also from Royal Canoe, Bucky Driedger’s playlist is posted on the third Wednesday of the month. What fun!

I thought it was a great way to promote themselves and draw the listeners in and engage them. It helps the excitement build for their upcoming album releases. Dan Mangan engaged with people some more a couple days ago when he posted on FB that if you messaged him you got to listen to a track that hasn’t been released yet. But only for a couple hours and then it was gone. The messaging reminded me of Rich Aucoins fun Messenger previews to his songs. Even if you are talking to bots, it is fun and definitely engaging.
Royal Canoe had a fun promotion going on for people of Winnipeg. They had a scavenger hunt to find a boom box with a cassette of their new album Waver, that isn’t due to be released until January 25 2019. There will also be a private listening party of the album there. Lucky Winnipeggers! There was a video of the winners posted on FB.

Hey, darbar! Fun last night, as Thalia Iyer (Trio) were quite to my taste, at the Sheep; the drummer is super subtle, and they mess around a lot.
Also, Sparklesaurus sparkled for me again. I’ve probably seen-heard them 6, maybe 7 times over 3 years or so, but the last time, I’d become a tad disenchanted. Poorish sound? Me not wanting to be there anymore? Who knows.
Last night made me appreciate their talents all over again — it sort of restablished the (ahem) validity of my previous opinion. Lead person and singer Felicia’s singing voice is truly excellent, the bass player is really, really good (the 3 front players are women, the drummer — talking about his constant smile — is the happiest guy in his job that I’ve seen in a while.
So, fun night, if very lightly attended.
Thanks for that show review Benoit. I am glad it was a fun night. I will have to check them out. I remember the name Sparklesaurus because it’s a great name, but that is all I remember about them.

I have also been listening to Album Radio on Spotify. I can not share it and have no idea how it works but the Album Radio for Troubled Mind is great; Great Lake Swimmers, Bahamas, Arcade Fire, Donovan Woods, Leif V, Barr Brothers, Craig Cardiff, Arkells, Matt Mays … Dan Mangan of course.
Royal Canoe playlist looks top notch. That will be fun for when I get home with the groceries and wish I had a kitchen ferry to put it all away for me. Music propels me for sure.
Music keeps me going. I would not function well without it.
I really enjoyed the Royal Canoe guys playlists and look forward to the next ones.
