It’s Release Radar playlist time! The playlists that let you know what is new this month! Along with a Spotify Release Radar playlist, there is a YouTube new video release playlist as well.

The YouTube playlist has over 50 new uploads starting off with videos of the Polaris Music Prize live performances. Some of the others are official videos, some are just audio tracks and there are more live videos. There are some pretty great videos on the list for you to check out. Some of the tracks in the videos can be found on the Spotify playlist but the playlists are quite different and you should check them both out.

The Spotify Release Radar playlist has over 100 songs on it this month with some artists having a couple tracks on there from new albums. Other tracks are teasers for upcoming albums and you can find some remixes. This month I was excited about many tracks on the list, like the ones from Moonface, Mounties, Lanikai, Tokyo Police Club and more.

Royal Canoe, We Are The City, Shad and Dan Mangan all had more tracks for us to enjoy this month as well. The Saskatchewan artists with new tracks are Colter Wall, Poor Nameless Boy, and Shannon Rae. There are a few Saskies in the YouTube playlist for you to check out as well.

Feature tracks:

Kayobe – Knock

“Knock” is the first song from Kayobe’s 4 song collaboration EP “Nevermore” with Toronto rapper Rashid St. James. The collaboration is a marriage between Kayobe’s electronic production and Rashid St. James’ unique poetic lyricism. The result is a hip hop project that draws on inspiration from artists like Kaytranada, GoldLink, Kid Cudi, and Snakehips yet has its own refreshing and unique feel.

Kayobe’s thoughts on the song:
Rashid and I got linked up by a friend who thought it would be good for us to work together, especially as I began to branch out into producing more hip hop beats. We first started work on another track (which will be included on Nevermore), but “Knock” didn’t come until a little later. After producing a few tracks for Rashid’s project, I showed him a few Kayobe beats I had – “Knock” really ignited something within him. Rashid immediately started writing verses on it, and we wrote the chorus together. It was a real organic process. I know he was going through some personal journeys that really helped him flow on it, too.

Ria Mae – Hold Me

The lyrics came from a conversation between Ria, Frank, and Lowell. “We were sharing how lately we felt unsure of how to engage online and remain positive in the current social climate,” says Ria. “We were talking about how easy life used to feel when we were young and how anxious a lot of our peers seem to be right now. The song is just an honest depiction of how this year is making us feel.”

That dialogue continues as a duet in the song among Ria and co-writer, friend, and collaborator Frank Kadillac. “Hold Me” was recorded in Ria’s former hometown of Montreal with award-winning producer, songwriter and mixing engineer John Nathaniel.

“Hold Me” and the breakup anthem “It’s You”, released September 14th, are available to stream and download on all digital service providers. Both tracks will be featured on her forthcoming EP, showcasing Ria’s desire to push sonic and lyrical boundaries. “It’s You” was produced by Grammy-nominated & ASCAP Award winning songwriter/producer, Scott Effman, and mixed by Les Cooper.

Ria’s upcoming EP, set for release early next year, is a follow up to her JUNO nominated My Love. The EP’s first single “Bend” became an instant hit, skyrocketing to Top 5 at Hot AC, Top 15 at AC, and Top 15 at CHR radio, reaching platinum certification status. Ria was nominated for “Pop Album of the Year” at the 2018 JUNO Awards for My Love. Two years earlier, Ria also earned a JUNO nomination for “Single of the Year” for her platinum-selling hit “Clothes Off” that has over 13 million streams worldwide.
