Another month, another round of new Canadian indie music to explore! October’s Release Radar brings together a pretty broad mix of sounds, with plenty of familiar names alongside artists who might be new discoveries. From thoughtful, rootsy songwriting to atmospheric indie, electronic beats and everything in between, there’s something to suit just about every musical mood.
This month’s playlist features the thoughtful songwriting of Hayden, The Burning Hell and Dan Mangan, balanced by the atmospheric sounds of Teen Daze and Land of Talk. There are some interesting collaborations in the mix, too. Boy Golden teams up with Cat Clyde, while Pierre Kwenders joins forces with Poté, bringing their own distinctive sounds together.
If you’re looking for something with a little more movement, we’ve also got electronic offerings from Jacques Greene, N2N and RUMPUS, along with La Force. It’s a good reminder of just how much variety there is across Canada’s independent music scene.
As always, I’ve made a point of giving some Saskatchewan artists a little extra play clicks. We kicked things off with The North Sound, Raven Reid and Andy Shauf, and there’s more homegrown talent throughout the playlist, including Patrick Moon Bird, Roxie Lenton, Natural Sympathies and Andrea An. It’s always great to hear what’s being created right here in Saskatchewan and to share a few local favourites with listeners beyond our provincial borders.
And the new music doesn’t stop there. This month’s selections also include fresh releases from Skye Wallace, Bibi Club, Zeus, The Zolas, Death From Above 1979, k-os and several others. Plenty of familiar names, a few unexpected turns and hopefully a couple of new favourites waiting to find their way into your regular rotation. And there is so much more to discover in the playlist with over 200 tracks to listen to.
That’s one of the things I enjoy most about putting together these monthly Release Radar playlists. You never quite know where the music will take you. Each month brings a different collection of sounds, artists and collaborations, making it a great opportunity to catch up on what’s happening in Canadian indie music and discover something you might otherwise have missed.
