A Little Late, but Still Thankful: Canadian Indie Music for Thanksgiving and Fall

Well, Thanksgiving was a week ago, the leftovers are probably long gone, and I’m only just getting around to posting this. Better late than never, right? After all, you don’t need a long weekend or a turkey dinner to find something to be thankful for, and there’s certainly no deadline on enjoying a good fall playlist!

Thanksgiving gives us a chance to spend time with family and friends, share a meal, and appreciate those simple moments of being together. In Canada, Thanksgiving became an official annual holiday in 1957, but harvest celebrations and traditions of giving thanks go back much further, including Indigenous peoples’ longstanding relationships with the land and its gifts.

Here at OurBasement, we celebrate the way we know best: through music. And while this post may have missed the Thanksgiving weekend, autumn is still in full swing, with plenty of crisp days, changing leaves, and cozy evenings ahead.

A Soundtrack for Thanksgiving and Fall

Sometimes the right song captures a feeling that’s hard to put into words. It might remind you of home, a familiar face, a warm kitchen, or those beautiful autumn days when the trees put on their spectacular fall colours. Music has a way of bringing us back to a moment, stirring up a memory, or simply making an ordinary day feel a little more special.

That’s what inspired our Thanksgiving & Fall playlist, bringing together Canadian indie music that captures the warmth of Thanksgiving alongside the reflective, sometimes nostalgic mood of autumn.

From indie-folk and acoustic ballads to familiar favourites and emerging Canadian artists, there’s a little something for every fall mood. Whether you’re recovering from Thanksgiving dinner, heading out for an autumn walk, curling up with a good book, or just enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of something warm, these songs make a fitting soundtrack.

And while Thanksgiving might be behind us for another year, there’s no reason to pack away those fall vibes just yet!

Familiar Favourites and New Discoveries

One of the things I love about putting together these playlists is the opportunity to bring together artists you already know and love with musicians you might not have discovered yet. Canadian indie music has plenty of songs that speak to connection, reflection, home, and the changing seasons. Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you let a playlist take you somewhere unexpected.

Our Thanksgiving & Fall collection brings those sounds together in one place, with more than 60 tracks to carry you through the season. Think of it as a musical reminder to slow down, appreciate the little things, and find something to be thankful for—even when the holiday dishes are done and it’s back to the regular routine.

Better Late Than Never—Let’s Keep the Fall Music Going!

Whether you spent Thanksgiving surrounded by family and friends, enjoyed a quieter long weekend, or found yourself somewhere in between, I hope you had a chance to relax and appreciate a few of life’s simple pleasures.

As for me, I’m a little late getting this post out, but I figure good music doesn’t have an expiry date. Gratitude doesn’t either, for that matter. There’s always time to appreciate the people in our lives, the music that moves us, and those small moments that make an ordinary day a little better.

So, from OurBasement, thanks for being here and sharing in the love of Canadian indie music. The turkey may be history, but autumn is still giving us plenty of reasons to slow down and enjoy the season.

Pour yourself a warm drink, get comfortable, and let some Canadian indie music carry you through the changing leaves and cooler days ahead.

Happy belated Thanksgiving, and happy fall from OurBasement!
