It all began on a September day in 2016—with a single Canadian indie song and a spark of inspiration. One word in a song title led to another track, and then another, setting off a chain reaction of music discovery. What started as a small, spontaneous playlist grew into a collaborative adventure, guided by the curiosity and contributions of fellow music lovers like you.

Over the course of a year and a half, this ever-evolving playlist flowed naturally from one song to the next, weaving a unique thread through the vast world of Canadian indie music. It paused briefly in January 2018 on the hauntingly beautiful “Game Shows” by Plants and Animals.

Then, in April 2021, the stream found new life—beginning once again with “Game Shows” and continuing with fresh selections that mirrored the shifting moods of the times. That chapter closed with the heartfelt “My World’s Getting Smaller” by Bobby Dove. Another stream emerged in October 2021, carrying the torch forward, until it concluded with “Big Lies” by Alex Little and The Suspicious Minds.

In March 2022, the journey picked up with that track and ended on “Faith is Easy” by Debra-Jean Creelman and Molly Guldemond. A new stream in May 2022 captured life’s introspections and movements, culminating with “Whatever Keeps You Going” by Donovan Woods. That track set the tone for August 2023’s stream, which flowed through to the vibrant energy of “Dirk Gently (Know Yourself)” by JayWood.

On July 19, 2024, we picked up that thread once more, this time ending on the dreamy “motion of the moon” by shy kids.

Now, in May 2025, we begin again—with “motion of the moon” as our starting point and a new sequence of sound unfolding. This latest stream carries us through Ora Cogan’s atmospheric “Hunting the Moon” and concludes with the dynamic pulse of “Brainfreeze” by Benja. The playlist mostly features tracks released in the past year, with a few older gems woven in to maintain the organic flow of connection.

Each song is a stepping stone—sometimes linked by a word, a feeling, or a subtle sonic echo. As you explore this latest edition of Stream of Consciousness, we invite you to not just listen, but to join in the journey. Maybe you’ll find the next perfect song to keep the stream going.
