What October Says About 2025

As 2025 heads into its final stretch, Canadian indie continues to thrive through fearless experimentation and collaboration. October brought a wave of standout releases—most notably from Dallas Good and Richard Reed Parry. Parry, known for his work with Arcade Fire, had been collaborating with Good on an album titled The Watchtower before Dallas’s passing. He’s now announced his plans to complete and release the project, inviting fans to contribute to one of the final tracks, “Not in This World.” While no release date is set, the album is anticipated for late 2025 or early 2026.

Also making headlines this month, Rheostatics released a track from their upcoming album, The Great Lakes Suite, due out November 21, 2025. The album features collaborations with Alex Lifeson, Gord Downie, Tanya Tagaq, and Laurie Anderson—a mix of improvised music and spoken word that celebrates the vast and vital Great Lakes system shared by Canada and the U.S.
