It has been another long and difficult year for many of us but thankfully we have music to get us through. And I am also thankful for our Canadian artists that kept putting out albums for us to fall in love with this year. I am not sure what I would have done without them.

These are my favourite 50 albums of 2021. There were about 100 albums that I was considering and next week the list might look different but these are the 50 I ended up with for this post. They are the albums that caught my ear and held my attention. The ones that I got most excited about, the ones I kept going back to, or the ones that simply moved me the most. I am very much a feels person, the its got a good beat and I can dance to it kind of person. You will find a lot on the list that fit that bill but there are some that the lyrics and storytelling got to me as well such as on Megan Nash’s new album Soft Focus Futures. There are some new albums by some of my old favourites such as Sidlining by Royal Canoe and World’s Most Stressed Out Gardener by Chad VanGaalen. And there are albums by new to me artists that I was excited about such as Shirushi by TEKE::TEKE and Church of Better Daze by Boy Golden.

Check out the playlist below on Spotify or YouTube. The albums appear on the playlist in no particular order. What were your favourite albums of 2021?
