Hello Our Basement,

Out of all the things in the world, all the things we can experience and feel as humans, why do we feel this need to rush?

Aren’t we just there to discover what love and intimacy means to us? Why don’t we embrace slowness for the one thing that brings us so much pleasure and connection?

Our new song, “There,” wrestles with these questions. It captures a longing and desire for slowness, but also a sense of resignation to these feelings.

So baby drown me slow in your tide
Heaven we’ve found
A little further down it’s cloud nine
If we hold on

I like the imagery of someone just standing in the ocean with open arms, waiting to be absolutely smothered by this massive wave.

This idea of two lovers intertwined beneath the currents reminds me of a certain solitude and singular connection that I find is really rare in intimacy, unless both individuals are just completely lost in the moment.

It’s not something that we really come by often, but when we’re there it’s the peak human experience. No other thoughts besides feelings and connection, just two people breathless underwater, slowly sinking together.

Thank you for taking the time to listen,
Jay Cherr of Chrome Daphne
