Hey there Our Basement,

Our new single, “Sweet Susie,” was developed during one of the decade’s most globally tumultuous periods. While the pandemic was at its peak I began considering how a child may perceive all of this chaos.

Sweet Susie, with your pigtailed tangles of gold
It’s true, baby that this world
Has long been bought and sold

I had been experimenting with an exercise where I write from a fabricated character’s perspective — rather than my own. With everything happening in the world at the time, it seemed that trying to explain all of the atrocities in the world to a child would be an extremely difficult task for a parent.

Our newly released full-length album, Born Losers, is intended to play as a series of vignettes. Each song has its own story to tell, all of which feed into the overarching theme of downtrodden human experiences. Life is always bittersweet, even at its most awe-inspiring. And the intention of the album is to portray this dichotomy, in a plainspoken, and relatable way.

Thank you for listening,
Troy Snaterse of Altameda
