Halloween is here! October 31st has arrived, and whether you’re dressing up, carving pumpkins, handing out candy to the neighbourhood trick-or-treaters, or settling in for a horror movie marathon, we’ve got something to add to your soundtrack. Here at OurBasement, we’ve put together another Canadian Indie Halloween playlist, bringing together music that’s a little dark, a little mysterious, and perfectly suited to the occasion.

A Little Darkness, A Lot of Canadian Indie

There’s something about Canadian indie music that makes it a natural fit for this time of year. Maybe it’s our long, dark winters, or perhaps it’s the way Canadian artists explore atmosphere and mood, weaving haunting melodies, ghostly harmonies, and mysterious lyrics into something wonderfully unsettling.

From brooding folk ballads and shadowy synth-pop to experimental sounds and eerie rock, the Canadian indie scene has a knack for capturing that perfect mix of beauty, mystery, and unease. It’s music that can transport you somewhere unexpected, whether through a hypnotic rhythm, an unusual arrangement, or lyrics that leave you wondering what exactly you just heard.

This year’s playlist brings together fresh releases and classic Halloween favourites, with plenty of musical tricks and treats along the way. Whether you’re after something atmospheric and haunting or a little more mischievous, there’s a good chance you’ll find something to add to your October 31st listening.

Nearly 700 Tracks of Canadian Chills and Thrills!

Looking for even more Halloween listening? You might want to revisit our legendary Canadian Indie Halloween playlist, first conjured back in 2017.

Originally stitched together on the old CBC Radio 3 site, this playlist has taken on a life of its own. Now haunting Spotify, it’s grown into a monstrous collection of nearly 700 tracks and 42 hours of Canadian chills, thrills, and supernatural sounds. That’s a whole lot of music — although you might need more than one October 31st to get through it!

Let the Music Take Over!

Halloween only comes around once a year, so whether you’re celebrating with a costume party, a scary movie, a mountain of candy, or simply enjoying a night in, make sure there’s a little Canadian indie music in the mix.

Turn down the lights, crank up the volume, and let the strange sounds, unexpected discoveries, and musical mischief take over. There’s no better time to explore the darker side of Canadian indie music!

Happy Halloween 2026 from OurBasement! May your night be filled with great music, good company, a few surprises, and just the right amount of mayhem.
