A Cross-Country Tour Stop in La Belle Province
Our cross-country journey continues, and this time we’re turning our ears toward Quebec Quadraphonics 2026—a fresh listen to the sounds coming out of one of Canada’s most vital and influential music scenes. Back in the early days of OurBasement, we made this stop in December 2016, returned again in 2021, and now felt it was absolutely time to check in once more and hear how Quebec continues to evolve.
As with previous editions, this playlist builds on those earlier journeys. I’ve refreshed the mix, added newer releases at the top, and spent time digging through some trusted sources to spotlight artists who’ve been especially active over the past few years. The focus this time is firmly on recent releases from 2022–2025, while still honouring the threads that connect Quebec’s past and present.
A Scene That Never Sits Still
Quebec’s indie music community remains one of the most collaborative and forward-thinking in the country. Montreal, in particular, continues to pulse with creative energy, but incredible work is happening across the province. There’s a shared sense of curiosity here—artists pushing into new sounds while still staying grounded in strong identity and storytelling.
Between 2022 and 2025, the scene has seen a powerful resurgence of francophone alternative, post-punk, and experimental pop, with a growing international presence, especially in Europe. Organizations like M pour Montréal have helped propel local artists beyond provincial borders, while festivals such as FME, FEQ, and GAMIQ continue to nurture talent at home.
Sounds Shaping Quebec Right Now
This era has been defined by bold contrasts and fearless genre-blending:
- Post-punk and dance-punk energy from artists like Choses Sauvages, and La Sécurité
- Experimental and indie pop from acts such as Bibi Club, Ariane Roy, and Virginie B
- The ongoing influence of the “piu piu” experimental hip-hop movement, with producers like Badmninto shaping the sound of a new generation
- Powerful Indigenous representation, led by artists like Elisapie and Soleil Launière, bringing language, culture, and lived experience to global stages
Artists such as Bibi Club and Choses Sauvages have earned major recognition along the way, including Polaris Prize nods and GAMIQ honours, reinforcing just how strong and export-ready this scene has become.
Quebec Quadraphonics 2026
This playlist is meant as a snapshot—not a definitive list—of a scene that’s constantly moving. Newer releases lead the way, followed by discoveries that help paint a broader picture of where Quebec indie music is headed right now. There’s texture, tension, dance-floor energy, intimacy, and experimentation woven throughout.
You’ll find TIDAL Music and YouTube versions ready to go, so you can explore in whatever way suits you best.
Enjoy this stop on our journey through Quebec Quadraphonics 2026—and soak in the sounds of a province that continues to inspire, challenge, and surprise at every turn.
