After two solo albums in French, the singer-songwriter presents a new r’n’b influenced song in English titled we’re a dream nobody wrote down. It is Ludovic Alarie’s first single in English.
The singer-songwriter is accompanied by Warren C. Spicer (Plants & Animals), Simone Pace (Blonde Redhead), Adèle Trottier-Rivard (Le Bleu), and Mishka Stein (Patrick Watson). Warren C. Spicer also produced, recorded and mixed the song. The single is being released in Canada under Ludovic’s own label chouchou records that he co-founded with Tasia Bachir and under Asa Wa Kuru, Blonde Redhead’s label, in the US.
we’re a dream nobody wrote down has a strong cinematic feel, a slow groove, dreamy guitars and it combines elements of indie and r’n’b music in an unexpected way. Written by Ludovic Alarie and Tasia Bachir, the song is about the nostalgia of something that never happened and about dreams that were never written down. Former classical guitarist, Alarie sings like he speaks, gently and softly, as to let us contemplate the beauty of his universe.
The music video of we’re a dream nobody wrote down was shot and edited by Sylvain Chaussée in collaboration with Tasia Bachir and Ludovic Alarie. Shot in time-lapse with 16mm film, the clip explores the relationship between time and movement. It is about the fear of forgetting and being forgotten.
Good morning!
hello
Well, my countries political system appears to be falling apart but more importantly I now hove enough tea to last me into the new year (not even including my emergency stash)
Not to be contrary, but it’s the current *process* that’s off whatever rails might have existed. Your *system* though is coping quite well, what with procedures existing for most whatever may eventuate. Or May eventuate, haha.
(Never used ‘eventuate’ before.)
and I don’t remember having seen (or heard) eventuate being used
Good Morning
It is perfectly good, though probably only used in universities. ‘Eventual’ doesn’t mean ‘it’ll happen but we just don’t know when”, even though it’s come to mean almost that; it means “may or may not happen depending on events”. Which may shine a light en ‘eventuate’.
the closest I came to attending university was when I stayed in the dorms of UofT and LSE. I’m not the type of person they are looking for. (waves hand)
Hi Scott
signs you may be a media nerd,
when you are watching a live outside broadcast on TV and spot another crew doing a live piece to camera in the background so you go through all the news channels to see who it is (it was CNN)
I’ve got only so much respect for universities. The problem is, often (seems to me), its distance from “reality”. (Of course this is immediately wrong, many times; there are also ways in which learning-teaching is deeply bound to reality. Or realities.)
Hmmm, maybe that entire paragraph will self destruct.
Garf, that at least is better than those unmentionables who ‘happen’ to station themselves behind the interviewer’s shoulder, and stay in that narrow angle by sheer pretend happenstance.
Worse than selfie smiles.
There was an idiot that kept hanging around the BBC and Sky OB’s just outside the palace of westminster so they clubbed together to build a couple of temporary platforms to broadcast from, so he extended the pole his sign was on. They do seem to have banished him.
Both sides of the debate are often still in view, but they are far enough away that they are less annoying.
Out. Ciao!
Good day. I am staying in today. The last few days have been a bit much for my low tolerances. Last night I took a quiet, picturesque walk in the newly and still falling snow. It is warm and messy out there now.
The name Blonde Redhead makes me chuckle.
At the beginning of this single I was quite sure I was not going to like it, blips and squeaks and basic beat but the ensuing layers increased my enjoyment.
Eventuate makes me want to break out the scrabble board!
it would give you a minimum 62 points in scrabble (50 in words with friends)
(yes I checked)
I feel confident you would be quite the scrabble opponent @garfieldUK
Scrabble game using only Canadian Indie bands names and R3-ism’s. You have the dictionary already;)
I don’t think contrats would be allowed in scrabble and my vocabulary isn’t as good as you think or I would like
Good day all!
Hi Candy
Hi @darbar.
Recovered from your latest production?
I just finished WR holiday podcast. Very nice:) I hope someone makes the cookies. They are a favourite here.
I also think his agent should make a cookie cookbook.
he has an agent now!?
Have you not been getting your royalty cheques?
I have indeed! I have enjoyed some free time with relaxing. I have to switch gears to getting things done! Christmas is coming, there are blog posts I would like to do, my house is a disaster and so much more to get done.
no!
I wasn’t ready for Christmas music yet so I haven’t listened to the podcast. Soon soon…
@DBS, in all honesty I’m surprised that anyone would choose to listen to the podcast
@garfieldUK you may have to read the fine print on the contract. those racoons are tricky.
I am enjoying listening to Your Top Songs 2018 playlist generated by Spotify. Some good shit man. There are a few tracks on there that make me go “huh” but overall pretty damn good.
Garf, I always listen and enjoy them.
My inability to work but my ability to putter at home has us wrapped and ready for the season. We have been enjoying seasonal tunes for quite some time now. I find it nice to listen while I am wrapping, baking etc.
what contract? I didn’t see any contract! The sneaky little bugger.
I bet Bucky is his agent, that would explain how he has been able to order stuff online (I should probably stop leaving my phone on the landing when it charges)
@darbar if you make it public I can join in … if you want.
That would explain all of Bucky’s new bling!
it would, It’s probably just as well I confiscated his front door key recently, I don’t want him going out and getting drunk. We all know it would just go to his head.
somehow I missed that Hawksley Workman has a new album!
@morgana – Does it work now?
http://open.spotify.com/user/spotify/playlist/37i9dQZF1EjmdOp55Xo1TM
@garfieldUK somehow the image of a drunk, decorated Bucky floating around London fits the state of your country right now …
I had Hawksley Workman’s song Battlefords on the Release Radar last month but I don’t know about the album yet.
@darbar eventually. I don’t think the link worked but I just went through your profile on Spotify.
HW-Reread the Exclaim! article; not until March 1st
You had me worried that I had missed something
as for the state of the UK, I am currently watching the Beeb speculating about the confidence vote result and what it could mean either way
I just wanted it to be out now;)
I love the option to be called back rather than waiting on hold and having my ears filled with garbage.
My phone decided I was in the US the other day when we were driving through Osoyoos so an extra $8 charge. No thanks!
Hmmm, most all of my 2018 Spotify playlist is releases from this year. Have I turned into someone with the attention span of a gnat and only wants new releases …
@morgana – I have to say that my focus is mostly on new releases but that is for various reasons. Polaris being a big part of that but I just always have been a “what’s next” kind of person. I like to look back from time to time but usually want to find the next new sound. Are you calling me a gnat? 😉
I am not brave or stupid enough to call you a gnat
signed
A.Coward
I didn’t either, did I?
Signed,
G.Nat
Yes you kind of did morgana. Haha! That playlist you are listening to is my top songs of 2018.
Sorry about the low blow @darbar. Please don’t take it as a negative comment. I like the new and appreciate it when you bring it to my attention. I just feel that so much work can go into making music that I should spend time focused on it before I move on to the next shiny new tune.
OK, got the call back from Telus. Heading off to other tasks for a bit.
good luck with Telus
@morgana – Agreed and no offense taken. I do get in some looking back listening. When I am making a themed playlist or a albums released in other years. I am listening to CDs in my car and my weekends are usually spent listening to our vinyl collections so Spotify isn’t getting that in their tracking.
$50 per seat plus expenses to get to and stay in calgary to see Hawksley in April …….
Is that the closest to you?
Yup!
):
listening to Elisapie; yearning for some liner notes. Is there harmonium in there?
the confidence vote for Teresa May was 200 for and 117 against
survivor!
surprised?
not really, I expected she would stay but I thought it would be closer
the next step is to see if Corbin calls a parliamentary vote of no confidence, where all MP’s would get a vote
with 117 of her own people voting against her it would only to another 200 or so to possibly give the Labour party the chance to create a minority government or even force another election.
I think if we do have another election before the 29th of March they prospective MP’s should be forced to list if they want us to leave and how we should go about it rather than their usual political party
A 2016 track snuck in my best of 2018 playlist. hehe
that’s sneaky
Oh and a 2007 track. Must have been from when I was working on albums released then.
That track up there is quite lovely btw. I do love the Montreal music scene where I assume this comes from by the musicians that performed on it.
