Mini Violini: 5 Little Violin Prodigies
May 27 and 28 at Bourgie Hall
The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) has announced the creation of Mini Violini, a showcase for 5 junior international violin competition winners ages 10 to 14, in the lead-up to the 2019 CMIM. Concerts will take place on May 27 and 28 at Bourgie Hall; both evenings will be webcast on concoursmontreal.ca.
The spirit, virtuosity and energy of these children are simply stunning, comments Alain Lefèvre, pianist and composer of international renown and Honourary Patron of the 2019 CMIM. The audience will be glued to their seat.
This initiative aims to showcase the talent of the smallest virtuosi and encourage a stimulating preparation to major international competition, such as the Concours musical international de Montréal.
During the events, the 10 jury members of the CMIM’s 2019 Violin Edition will offer constructive comments to the young violinists. A single prize of $10,000 will be awarded by the public following a tally of votes both in the concert hall and online.
The Minis
The 5 violinists were selected and invited by the Concours musical international de Montréal based on their performance at international junior competitions. Participants are:

Two Concerts at Bourgie Hall with both evenings being hosted by Mario Paquet.
Mini Recital: May 27 at 7:30 PM. Each violinist will present a 15-minute recital.
Mini Concerti: May 28 at 7:30 PM. The Minis will perform a concerto of their choice, accompanied by I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra directed by Cho-Liang Lin, CMIM 2019 jury member.

I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra
Founded in 1983 by Yuli Turovsky, the I Musici de Montréal Chamber Orchestra is comprised of 15 exceptional musicians whose varied repertoire ranges from the 17th century to today. Jean-Marie Zeitouni, conductor and artistic visionary, has served as artistic director since 2011. Each I Musici de Montréal concert is a unique experience combining discovery, tradition and innovation in classical music.
About the CMIM
Considered as one of the great cultural achievements in Canada, the CMIM is the only international competition in North America to be held annually and to feature three disciplines (piano, voice, and violin) in a three-year rotation. The 2019 Violin Edition will take place from May 27 to June 5 in Montreal: 24 violinists from around the world will compete to win prizes worth $150,000.

This post brings me back to the days of my kiddo playing the violin … well, sort of as she was no protege but memories of hours upon hours of practicing and carting around to lessons and music camps.

Donovan Woods was good last night. His opener, Katie Pruitt was significantly better live than her releases I listened to on Spotify. Conversely, Donovan was good but … His band certainly was of note; keys was the same fellow who works with Jill Barber and drums was the guy from Great Lake swimmers and guitar also worked with Buffy Saint Marie.
I am going to go scratch around in the yard for a bit and soak up some sun.
