The playlist this week is about the 5th annual Winterruption happening in Regina and Saskatoon, January 22- 26, 2020. Winterruption is an effort to give people a great reason to leave their house in the dead of winter on the prairies. It’s been brutally cold this past week and we could sure use a good reason to brave it. Music warms my heart and soul and is definitely worth a trip in the frigid air.

Regina Folk Festival works with Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon and many of the artists play in both cities during the festival. I just found out there are Winterruptions in Swift Current, Edmonton, and Winnipeg as well. I will have to look into those. You can find out a bit more on Regina Folk Fest‘s or the Winterruption Saskatoon site. There seems to be a lot more going on in Saskatoon, with dance and theatre as well as music at many venues.

Some of the artists that will be heading here are Good Lovelies, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Hannah Epperson, Begonia, Dirty Catfish Brass Band, Choir! Choir! Choir!, Weaves, Whitehorse. Saskatoon also gets Leif Vollebekk, Partner, The Wailers, Blessed, Slow Down Molasses, The Strumbellas, Girlfriend Material, and more local artists at both.

I wish I could make it to them all but time and money won’t allow it. Weaves is my must go to show this time around. I was looking forward to their performance at Regina Folk Fest last summer and then a storm blew in and their set was cancelled. I am not missing them this time! The Weaves show is the same night as the sold out Whitehorse show in Regina. Begonia’s show is another one I really high on my list but I do wish I could get to them all!

Do you have a mid winter festival near you? Are you planning on getting to any music shows in the near future? Tell us about it. If you don’t make it out, at least you can enjoy
