Hey Our Basement,
“King of Spades” is originally a track from my self-titled album which came out in September.
This latest single is a reimagined duet with Rose Cousins (JUNO Award Winner, Polaris Nominee) adding a brand new second verse.
I wanted to continue the story of T. Thomason; it was such a roller coaster getting that thing done. Throughout the five years of creation, I met a lot of amazing people who offered me support and advice. Rose was one of those people.
I wanted to highlight the incredibly supportive artists in the Canadian music scene who help each other thrive (especially those with more experience helping those on the come up!)
Rose has always been so generous with her time and advice, even as she navigates the industry as an indie artist herself. I couldn’t think of a better song on the album that fit her voice and writing style, and I am so incredibly excited to continue the story of “King of Spades” with the verse she wrote alongside Breagh Isabel (formerly of Port Cities).
“King of Spades Pt II” was inspired by relationships that just never quite line up.
The discord of wanting to be close to someone and build something with them, but life seems to keep getting in the way.
Once different relationships fall through enough times, you start looking for the common denominator and then you realize…oh shit.
Keep an ear out for more collabs!
