We are having a Canadian Hip Hop Party today. We last had a Hip Hop Party on July 17, 2017 . Now we are back with more added to that playlist. The plan is to look at different genres of Canadian Indie music once a month or so. We shall see how it goes.

Rap became more popular in Canada in the 80s but it wasn’t until the 90s and the success of Maestro Fresh Wes’s Let Your Backbone Slide, that record labels began to take an active role in recording it. In the late 1990s and 2000s a number of important Canadian rap artists emerged, such as Vancouver’s Rascalz (1997’s “Cash Crop”); Nova Scotia-born Buck 65 (Richard Terfry, 1997’s “The Centaur”); Toronto’s Choclair (Kareem Blake, 1999’s “Ice Cold” and “Let’s Ride”); Saukrates (Amani Wailoo, 2000’s “Love or Money”); k-os (Kevin Brereton, 2004’s “Crabbuckit,” “B-Boy Stance,” and “Joyful Rebellion”); and Kardinal Offishall (Jason Harrow, 2008’s “Dangerous”).
