1)Would you like to introduce yourself?
For sure. Hello, we’re Expanda Fuzz from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We are a duo that makes distorted and fuzzy, post-punk-pop songs. Bleep Blorp!

2)When and why did you start playing?
We started out as a basement recording project that originally experimented with ripping apart a Pink Floyd tune, slowing it way, way, way down, adding layers of fuzzed-out guitars with sampled back beats. We then moved on from that noise to write our songs that turned into our first EP “Bleuets”. When Ottawa Explosion (RIP) heard it, they asked us to play their amazing festival. That was our first show, in the Spring of 2016.

3)What is your favourite part about this line of work? Your least favourite? Why?
Favourite: Being DIY. Being creative. Writing. Recording. Stockpiling guitar pedals. Challenging ourselves to be a bit different in the indie rock space.
Least favourite: Self promotion. Stockpiling guitar pedals $$: The indie income is well, not great.

4) Is there a hidden meanings in your work that you are surprised that nobody spotted (or that was noticed quicker than you expected)?
OMG great question for us. We have pop culture easter eggs hidden in the lyrics of almost all of our songs. Some sharp listeners have picked up on the references and asked us about them. To be fair, some references are super obscure. We’ve actually joked about having an Easter egg hunt contest with our friends and fans. Maybe this year we’ll do it.

5)How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
Fuzz pedals. And trying really hard to keep a straight face and not burst out laughing.

6)Which of your tracks would you recommend for any new listeners?
All of them! But maybe try out Last of the Who Heads, Hallowe’en Ice Cream or Ghosts & Flowers to see if you’re into our noise and might want to explore further.

7)If you were given the power to do so, which overused interview question would you have banned?
Well, if someone wants to take the time to interview us, no questions would be banned. We’re okay with the cliched questions like ‘who are your influences’ and ‘who would you compare yourself to’, as people need help with a point of reference, especially when you’re a new band. We will say the hardest question is ‘how would you describe your sound’. We still struggle with that one, which is maybe a good thing?

8)And, most importantly, what is your favourite type of cookie?
Cookie Monster
